Where truck weight comes from

A truck is a cast hanger and baseplate around two solid steel parts - the kingpin and the axle. Steel is the densest material in the truck, so hollowing those two parts is how every brand builds its light models. Done right, the geometry, turn and strength stay the same; only the weight changes.

The real numbers

From our published spec chart, one ST1 truck for an 8.0" deck weighs: Classic 374 g, Hollow 354 g, Hollow Low 343 g, and Ultra Low Inverted Hollow Light 337 g. Hollowing the kingpin and axle saves roughly 20-37 g per truck - 40-74 g per pair - without shortening the axle or changing the hanger.

Does lighter actually matter?

For flip tricks and long street sessions, a lighter setup pops easier and fatigues you less. But weight matters less than fit: a truck matched to your deck width rides better than a lighter truck that is too narrow or too wide. Check the size chart first, then go light.
