What Size Skateboard Trucks for an 8.5" Deck? (And Every Other Width)
The rule is one sentence: your truck's axle width should match your deck width, nose to tail, within about a quarter inch. For an 8.5" deck, that means an 8.5" axle - wheels sitting flush under the rails, not poking past them, not hiding inside them.
Why the match matters
Axle wider than the deck: your shins find the wheels, and flip tricks catch. Axle narrower: the board wants to tip past its edge and primo lands multiply. Matched: the board flips true and grinds lock centered.
The quick table
Narrow street decks (7.5" to 8.25") ride the standard street sizes. 8.5" - the width everyone asks about - is where bigger street and transition setups start. Above 9", you are in wide truck territory, all the way up to the 13" wide boys.

For an 8.5" deck, every ST1 line except the wide Hollows has a match.
